Clashing Worldviews

My notion of  “Web of Beliefs” shows that our beliefs are organized to support our lives – yet they are not as substantial as we may think. For example:

  • Two people can hold similar beliefs yet use them very differently
  • Two people may hold very different beliefs but lead lives clearly having the same values

Thus, I often view our beliefs as mere clothing.  All that said, this video illustrates some of this so much better than my words !  Ironically enough I found this on a Christian’s site — he was using it to open the eyes of his fellow Christians.  You see, the religious world does have hope.

  1. hey man, this is a brilliant video. I’ve seen Qualia Soup videos before and love all of them, but this is probably the best. Need to go find if theramin has other videos too.

    thanks for sharing!

  2. Sabio,

Thank you for posting this video. There is a very disturbing similarity between that little boy and how my life played out! If life is metaphor, then I am that little boy!

  3. Rene & Anoat — glad to see others enjoyed this as much as I did. That is why I am not going to post for a while and let folks get a peak at it if they have time.

  4. Unbelievable that they will show such video to Christians. It is so anti-Christian.

To be honest, I had a lump on my throat while I was watching. It’s like the story of my life. When the kid kicked their cupboard into the water, it felt like me when I finally left the faith.

Also, the weird cupboard he came up with, and the bullying he got at home. Just like me. I came up with my outlandish theories and my relatives made fun or me, or shamed me, or shunned me.

  5. I feel like I’ve been that kid in so many situations for so many years.

It’s high time I rob “those people” of enjoying my victim reaction.

not sure how you get away from this. The idea that one can organize their cupboards how they please is still a worldview.

Perhaps you are confused. This video is not implying that worldviews are wrong, it is showing the bizarreness of the view that states that only ONE MY worldview is right and proper.

  8. Absolutely wonderful video!
