  2. Would be great if there was a widget where you could tick your preferences and it gives you an actual badge to embed — but that would require finding some widget that lets you do that.

Great tables though, until then I might just have to do it in the old fashioned post way.

  3. Michael,
Thanks. I agree, but I don’t think WordPress has that capacity. Maybe I should start my own site so I have that flexibility. You do your own site — is it easy? Still hoping to get on your blog list.

  5. Finally updated my blogroll after putting it off since it required so many additions! Also I decided to go the lazy route and just pasted the original formulation from PhilPapers, no tables required.

WordPress should let you embed 3rd party widgets so if you find a widget that lets you do custom questions getting a badge with the answers it should be easy.

It’s not much different on my own site — still a WP platform. There’s more flexibility since I can write the widget myself if I want to but that requires learning PHP and doing it…

  6. I found that on 100% of these dimensions, my answer is “both / neither / none of the above” because I think the distinctions are largely bogus. The conceptual frameworks they come from are sufficiently wrong that the the questions are misleading or meaningless.

From the ways they are stated, I’m pretty sure the list was assembled by an analytic philosopher. Continental philosophy has severe misunderstandings of its own, but this set looks squarely analytic.

People’s answers to these questions might give you a sense of their personality, but it’s more like asking them what their favorite color is than anything revealing about actual understandings.

Trying to come up with a better list, to tease out what people’s actual worldview is, would be extremely interesting… and difficult!

  7. @ David,
I am sure you are right. But this sort of declaration who be good for those that buy into these dichotomies. Maybe it would aid in see those other possiblities.
Do return when you find ways to succinctly state them, or to off better questions. 🙂
I also think that understanding someone’s personality is very similar to teasing out the worldviews.
