Fighting an Imaginary Being

I thought of this aphorism today:

“We do not struggle against an imaginary god, we struggle against those who try to use imaginary gods or abstractions to hinder knowledge, freedom, kindness or justice.”

    Well said, sir.

  2. Call Hallmark! 🙂

  3. Glad you guys liked it. It just came to mind because I am tired of being told it is silly to fight something that I think is imaginary — I want something to quickly show why that protest is a misunderstanding or distortion.

  4. Knowledge, freedom, kindness, and justice can often be subjective, Sabio. It would be wonderful if we were all on the same page about these concepts in life, but it’s unlikely to be. We’re all brought up so differently and value things in different ways on our particular hierarchy or continuum. How could we all ever agree? What you think is hindering knowledge, I may feel is protecting our world from killing itself off; what you see as freedom, I may consider to be pure slavery.. see what I mean?

You are not battling an imaginary being, you are battling people and their particular, unique ways of perceiving what they do.

    Very interesting saying, Sabio.

  5. I totally agree with you Warrioress, well said.

I really like how you put that together Sabio.

  7. Thank you, Earnest. I think it captures an important point.
