Play with your Tagline
This is a note for WordPress bloggers: Most WordPress themes allow you to display a Tagline (a subtitle). The tagline can explain your blog’s title or tell your readers a bit more about your blog. The fun thing about the tagline, is that you can change it whenever you want to experiment with the feel of your blog name without changing the actual name of your blog.
Some folks are unaware of the TagLine and thus their site only shows the boring default provided by WordPress :
“Just Another WordPress.com Site“. (yawn!)
So give it a try (if you haven’t). Here is how to play with your tagline:
- Go to your dashboard
- Look down the left column and choose “Settings/General”
- The second field you see is the “Tagline” field: type in there
Get Meta off your Blog
Also, many folks don’t realize that WordPress pollutes your columns with another default called “Meta: WordPress Controls”. It puts links in your column that neither you nor your readers use — junk.
Here is how to get rid of them:
- Go to your Dashboard
- Go down to Appearance and choose “Widgets”
- In the right column you will see “Meta: WordPress Controls” – click it and choose “delete”. Either that, or click and drag it back into the left column called “Inactive Widgets”
